If you weren't convinced before you must certainly be now, video is the way to go to get noticed, bring people to a website, promote yourself or a product and build brand recognition.
Now there are two sides to creating video for the web, technical and 'theatrical'.
The technical aspect takes into account issues such as lighting, audio, filming techniques, editing, video conversion and uploading to the web. There are many courses, videos and training available to teach technical aspects of web video production.
The theatrical side of web video is not talked about so often. Factors such as how to theme and structure a story, how to tap into human emotions and how to build a rapport with viewers that will make them come back again and again. These factors are not so easy to pin down, but video to the success of a video.
Rather than talk on and on about it, here is a script for a recent online production on viral video.
Introduction by Frank from the studio:
Frank
"Word of mouth advertising. The act of one friend telling another a piece of good news. It's the oldest and most powerful form of marketing in history."
Frank moves from behind the desk to sit at the front.
"but how do you create the "buzz" that makes people want to pass a message on?
How do you create "viral video?"
Close-up
"To make video "buzzworthy", it should contain one or more of the following elements.
It helps to be:
Switch to scene close to door/front door
"So next time you plan to shoot video for the web, surprise your audience, give them something to remember you by because
good impressions last.
I'm Frank Romanis, til next time"
Frank turns to leave via the front door. At the same time Greg opens the door and it hits Frank in the face.
End of script.
A few things you will notice about the script:
Another aspect is that it is one of a series. If a viewer joins in at any of the videos along the line and likes what they see, they will feel compelled to watch them all.
And to re-state what was said in the video "So next time you plan to shoot video for the web, surprise your audience, give them something to remember you by"
