The Role of Viral Video Promotions in SEO - Website Promotion - Online Promotion

Online marketing has become a highly sophisticated endeavor that it now requires multi-disciplinary and multi-pronged strategies. Generating leads is the first step but converting visitors into paying customers or clients is the bottom line of all search engine optimization services. All the methods used in optimizing a website require hard work, creativity and a little bit of luck.

Well, when it comes to SEO campaigns the concept of luck could refer to the classic 'trial-and-error' method and it could also refer to the 'shotgun' method of marketing campaign. In a nutshell, it involves creating a wide variety of campaigns and then testing which one work s best. In most cases, however, the success is only short-lived.

Viral video campaign is one such good example that relies heavily on 'luck'. Again, luck when used in this context does not necessarily mean total randomness. Just like any marketing campaigns, either online or offline, the response of the target market is hard to predict but some basic principles can be laid down. Not all viral video campaigns become instant and sensational hits. Only a small percentage of the marketing videos released through social networking sites and video upload sites gain enough popularity and become truly viral.

Videos that are posted on video sharing sites like YouTube become viral if they have high entertainment value, controversial, political and instructional. Entertaining amateur videos are the most common ones that become viral. For example, the simple but cute home video of a toddler and a baby entitled 'Charlie Bit My Finger - Again!' has become a top internet sensation that it has been viewed in YouTube more than 400 million times since it was posted some four years ago! It is so popular that many spinoff parodies of it were made.

The popularity of viral videos makes them very useful for advertisement purposes. Related products or website links can be embedded in them such as in the case of highly popular YouTube videos. For instance, the Charlie Bit My Finger - Again!' video has many toddler and baby-related product placements in it. Would-customers can click on these ad links and then new windows will open leading to the website being advertised. The video sharing website that is hosting the viral video earns royalties or affiliate fees every time a customer is led to the websites being advertised and makes a purchase.

Some of the most successful SEO marketing campaigns largely owe their success to viral marketing strategies. Companies can either commission a video or simply place their ads on existing viral videos.
