You may have heard that blogs can be excellent sources of passive income, and you might want to take a piece of the blogging pie. In reality, though, it doesn't matter whether you are hoping to get more traffic so you can make more money, or whether you just want to have more people coming to see what you have to say. Regardless of what your goal is for having a blog, it's just common sense to assume that you'll want to get more traffic to your blog if you can.
So, what are the best ways to attract new visitors? You should internalize that the only way you can successfully grow your user base is to get new people to show up and stay. Even if you are getting more traffic, eventually you'll start to lose steam if people that find your blog aren't compelled to come back habitually and/or tell others about your blog. So, with that in mind, how do you get more traffic to your blog?
One important way is networking with other blogs and websites. Most blogs are fairly personal, and if you can tap into a network of peers who link to your blog when they are interested in something you've said, you will potentially get a lot of their users to see what you've written. While this in no way guarantees that you'll have all of these visitors coming back in the future, just the fact that you are getting new people to visit your blog is helpful.
Another critical method of getting traffic to your blog is through search engine optimization. You have probably heard this term plenty of times before, but it is worth repeating. Search engine optimization (or SEO) is how you make your blog more visible to big search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN. This includes writing keyword-dense content that users who are interested in your topic would type in the search bar. There's a specific keyword percent range that will help your site appear higher in the results without being interpreted as spam by the search engines.
There are other ways to get more traffic to your blog, but these are the first and most important steps. If you do these well, you will see an increase in traffic in no time.
