If you offer a really high-quality report or video for free, you'll usually have no trouble getting it to go viral. Post it in a forum as a freebie, send it out to your list, but make sure it states clearly that you encourage your readers or viewers to share the download link, or else they may feel like they're doing something wrong.

So how does all of this relate to your online business? Let's say that one day you decide to write an email to several of your friends letting them know about your business or a specific product that you are currently selling. Not only are you encouraging these people to come and see the service or product that you have on offer, you are also encouraging these people to pass that email on to several people that they know. If the email is continuously sent out to different people, then eventually hundreds of thousands of people could receive that email along with the information contained inside.

You can see why viral marketing is as popular as it is today. It's a cheap and fast method of sharing information about your business to large segments of your target market.
